This along with Bigelow Hollow are my favorite hiking trails. If you catch it at the right time which is fairly generous fan for much of the summer the meadow off of Bread and Milk has beautiful wildflowers. The forest is primarily hemlock pine and spruce and so evergreen in the winter it’s always gorgeous. There’s a small Trail almost hidden leading up to a colonial era cemetery. Another side Trail leads to a second abandoned building purpose unknown. There are some old stone walls and meal or damn structures along the river if you look carefully.

For those interested, the cemetary is the Old North Bolton Cemetery. It’s filled with gravestones from the Revolutionary War and the early 1700s to the 1800s.

I’m guessing the abandoned building is the remains of one of the Belding’s hunting and fishing cabins?

This is the building. Its front and back and a porch or stone patio of sorts. Uncertain what the white possibly ceramic tube in the fireplace chimney is. There are some stone structures along the river near that maybe was part of a mill or something.

These are near the building and like the river in this spot. There may be more but I didn’t see any others along the stretch of the river which is pretty generous to call it a river at this point.
